Artisans of Today's Communities
Artisans of Today's Communities, ARTCO, is a project where children use new media tools to explore their past and present realities, practice collective action and engage to create a better future. During the fall of 2011, Inuit and Cree children participated in creative workshops hosted by ARTCO. The workshops were centered around photography, video, mural painting, music and dance. At the end of the workshop sessions, the artistic expressions of all the children were presented to the local community through an exhibition.
For this project I had the joy to collaborate with Gabriela Gamez (conceptor of this project) and designed together the online platform for this project (desktop and mobile versions). As part of the project, I had the fortune to run a quick ethnographic study with the community in Kuujjuarapik-Whapmagoostui, test various prototypes used during the workshops and collaborate in the installation of the artwork of the children.
The mockups here present the future evolution of ARTCO (as an online platform), which is hoping to expand to other communities.
ARTCO is a project led by Kingulliit Productions and IsumaTV. Concept and Production, Gabriela Gámez. Funding by Canada Media Fund (CMF)
